The ballroom is the room which has acquired the most speculation and myths. Were the high windows so the people outside could not see in? Or was it more because the outlook from the windows is of the workaday courtyard and the ballroom was a place for partying? Were the band banished to the minstrels gallery so they couldn't see what was going on or so they were out of the way of the dance floor?
Whatever the truth, the ballroom is a delightful room with the yellow damask wall coverings and glittering chandelier. The furniture under the original slip covers is also still the rich yellow and in perfect condition. Sadly the ballroom has suffered the most from water ingress and the ceiling is in poor condition. But one can look up and see the lights which would have twinkled like stars. The shades on the wall lights are still the original silk but several are now sadly rotting.
